Fergie - Retraction on agreeing with the "Naw"

It's funny how your opinion can change, practically on the flip of a coin, once you know what you're talking about. I agreed with foxxxylove's assessment of Black Eyed Peas vocalist, Stacy Fergusion aka Fergie. But the truth is, aside from seeing the video for Fergalicious, I hadn't really listened to her CD.

Actually, I had. I previewed the tracks when I was in Fye oneday. But for some reason, the opinion I walked away with was "Jeez, this whole thing sounds like dog crap". That was a few weeks ago. Fast forward to yesterday. I'm riding around in my car (a 2002 WS6 Trans am, one of the last ones ever made, with only 6900 miles on it, an interior that still smells news, not a scratch on it whatsoever, and somewhere in the neighborhood of 350 horses) and I hear this song and I think, "hey, there's something about that song. It sounds pretty good". It turned out to be fergie.

I bought the CD, took it home and played it. And was very surprised. It's real R&B and she doesn't do a bad job at all. May not win any awards, but definitely palatable for the ears.

So, therein lies the danger of agreeing too quickly with someone else's assessment and also rushing too quick to assess the quality of something (previewing cds in music stores saves time, but it doesn't always give you the proper space and time to evaluate music).

The song, by the way, is Glamorous. It has a nice beat, starts out great, has a bit of fluff in the middle, and ends nicely with some good lyrics that sound autobiographical.

I got problems up to here
I've got people in my ear
Telling me these crazy things
That I don't want to know (fuck y'all)
I've got money in the bank
And I'd really like to thank
All the fans, I'd like to thank
Thank you really though
Cause I remember yesterday
When I dreamt about the days
When I'd rock on MTV, that be really dope
Damn, It's been a long road
And the industry is cold
I'm glad my daddy told me so, he let his daughter know.
