FutureWorld - whew, what a dog (Blythe Danner, Peter Fonda)
Future World - Yuck!
I got a samsung high def lcd 40 inch a while back and, at the same time, finally got a high definition converter box for my time warner service. And I suppose, due to the novelty of it, I started recording a lot of stuff off the high def HBO and showtime channels. Kind of like when I got my first vcr in the eighties -- started recording all kinds of claptrap because it seemed "neat to do". This was, of course, back in the days of $500 vcrs and supermario on the original nintendo. Back then, xbox and playstation were simply not imaginable.
Speaking of claptrap, I just watched Futureworld, the sequel to WestWorld. That was a dog of a movie. Actually, I've never been a Peter Fonda fan, but the movie was pure crap all on it's own. And what horrible dialogue. I guess the principals in the film were in sore need of paychecks at the moment. And I wouldn't be surprised if Yul Brynner made more than all of the other actors for his robotic cameo appearance.
Stuart Margolin from the rockford files was in the movie and he wasn't bad at all (loved him as "Angel" on Rockford---pure comic relief). But big surprise: Blythe Danner from "The Prince of Tides" and "The Great Santini" was the female lead. And...she looks exactly the same 30 years ago as today. Just younger. To me, Blythe Danner has a seductice charm. Wonderful voice, great hair, and great girl next door looks. And, my apologies to Gwynneth fans, she is a much better actress than her daughter...though, in Futureworld, that might not have been easy to tell.
Futureworld sucks!. If you ever think about renting this one for nostalgia's sake, or you want a peek at earlier sci-fi, pass on this one. It truly reeks. However, if you are a Blythe Danner fan, get it, because she's usually charming in everything she does.
