From CNET, here's a shopping list that's sure to rip your wallet or purse wide freakin' open:
The Geek list of things we must have in order to be happyPersonally, I find these lists somewhat amazing. Why, you ask? Well, I think the list pretty much speaks for itself. A panasonic lcd monitor for 5 grand? Are you guys flippin' insane? A dell laptop for over 4 thousand guacomoles?
Good grief, man. Here's the rule for laptops and even desktops (courtesy of Geek Newsweek) - unless you are a diehard gaming nut and absolutely need to have bleeding edge technology at your bloody fingertips, buy the cheapest thing you can lay your hands on. Because, guess what, the computer you spend four grand on today will, in a year and a half, only be worth a grand (if that!).
Let's see. What else is on the list? Ok, a Sony PSP and Xbox 360. No problem there. Though, I've tried portable gaming and, quite frankly, I just don't seem to have enough free time on my hands to accomodate it. Also, as of 5/24/06, there just aren't that many Xbox 360 games out there to make the system worth purchasing (I'm waiting for Gears of War and I hope the wait is worth it). Though, Halo 3 will absolutely make the system a must-have.
80 hour Tivo? Yes, if I didn't already have a DVR from time warner for my cable. I have to say being able to tivo or dvr something is cooooool.
